Halloween has been celebrated as an annual tradition amongst many kids and families. The changing of seasons, the opportunity to get free cookies, and candy, dressing up in costumes, and seemingly a time of joy and festivals. However, as Christians we must remember the origins of Halloween and teach the truth to our children.
Historically, Halloween also known as “All Hallows Eve” was a time to celebrate the dead or the Lord of the dead. In fact, during the time of the Druids the people believed that the spirits of their dead, whether human or pets, would return to their homes (dressing up in costumes). The people were so afraid they would carve frightening images on turnips with the hope of warding the spirits away. Hence, the tradition of carving of pumpkins and leaving them on the porch. It is said, upon the return to their home the spirits would be weary and would seek refreshment, or a “treat”. If the homeowners failed to leave an offering the spirit would curse the home. “Trick or treat!”

Furthermore, amongst many Satanists, wiccans, and earth worshippers Halloween is regarded as an important time. Many believe it is the time that the veil between life and death is the thinnest. Henceforth many worship and honor the dead, perform spells, sacrifices, sex rituals, and sacrifices during this time. On a recent YouTube video I discuss published reports how witches will be casting spells on Halloween to affect the upon coming election. You can watch it here.
As God’s people we must not be ignorant (Hosea 4:6). We should choose not to participate in that which goes against God’s Word and we should train our children accordingly (Leviticus 18:1-5). I believe we should use this time to let people know about the good news of Jesus Christ. When so many are focused on what is scary, evil, and dark, what a great opportunity we have to share the light of truth.
John 12:46 I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.
